History Of Suicide Charley

On 24 October 1942, the 1st Marine Division was occupying a defensive position around Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. The 1st Battalion 7th Marines, commanded by LtCol Lewis B “Chesty” Puller helped form this line.

Joe- May 2003 - September 2003
"I served with 1/7 C Co. in Najaf as they where stationed there and in Babylon as they acted as force protection, The Marines became my brothers and my family and I lived with them and I had the honor to serve them and I had the Tattoo of the Suicide Charley as sign of my loyalty."

LENOIR CITY — For 41 years there was lingering uncertainty for Emma Lou Stansell over how her son, Gerald, died in Vietnam.

She had, she said, “mother questions” after her 20-year-old son came home from the war in 1966 in a sealed casket.
